Outlook 2003 sending problem

Outlook 2003 wont send messages. It receives them ok.

ISP says all account settings are OK and the problem has been caused by a Microsoft upgrade.

I get the following message in the send/receive dialogue box:-

Sending reports error (0x 800CCC78) Unable to send the message. Please verify the e-mail address in your account properties. The server responded 452 4.7.0 (F11) To many messages sent.

This happens if even one message is sent.

Can anyone help please?

Hi there. Few things it could be. Just check for Blacklisting maybe:

1. Go to http://www.whatismyip.com/
2. Check your IP on http://mxtoolbox.com/blacklists.aspx

Who actually hosts your email account? This is a server side issue not a local problem to your machine. Do not be fobbed off.

Hi there. TESCO.NET host. I spoke with them at length but - you guessed - they said it was a Microsoft update problem. Had a 15 minute phone call with Microsoft and as soon as they heard I was running Outlook 2003, they didn't want to know, product too old but how about BUYING something newer?

So off we go - round and round again.

Tesco did run through all the settings which were as they should be.

As this is an intermittent issue, could it be some sort of virus? I run Command AV which keeps finding W32/Agent.YM.gen!Eldorado. I disinfect this but it's back again on next boot.

Any ideas?

Mike

Hi Mike,

Have you tried running a scan with Malwarebytes? If there is something on your computer this will find it and remove it. Just download the free version. Don't enable the trial during install and run a full scan after updating.

If the issue is intermittent I would certainly be inclined to say again that the Tesco servers are the issue. Office doesnt just turn its problems on and off. It usually just goes for a full on fail that can be found and rectified.

Only other theory is that your AV is trying to scan each outgoing message and thus causing an issue. Can i suggest disabling email scanning to see if this rectifies the issue?

Best of luck!

Hi there. TESCO.NET host. I spoke with them at length but - you guessed - they said it was a Microsoft update problem.........................

And let me also guess - they didn't happen to mention "which" Microsoft update caused the problem so have to wonder how they came to that conclusion.

Anyhow - note the bold part in the error you've encountered - which is an error being returned by your ISP's SMTP server and has absolutely nothing to do with Outlook

Sending reports error (0x 800CCC78) Unable to send the message. Please verify the e-mail address in your account properties. The server responded 452 4.7.0 (F11) To many messages sent.

Virtually every ISP these days is enforcing some kind of limit for messages sent which could be impacting the issue. The controls can be any combination of the following

#1 - # of recipients in one message
#2 - total # of messages sent in any given hour
#3 - total # messages sent in any given day
