Outlook 2003 client cannot connect to Exchange 2000 (Small Business Server) while VPN'd in
I have a client who is running Outlook 2003 on a Windows XP SP3 laptop trying to connect to his Exchange (MS SBS 2000). He VPN's in and can easly access his network drives as he normally does. These shares are on the same server as the Excahnge server. I can ping the server by its name on this laptop. I tried the TELNET suggestion to try to connect to the server via port 25 with no luck. When the user brings his laptop into the office, and logs in.. no issues at all. This has actually been an issue for some time and I am uncertain about when it started happening. Any suggestions/help would be GREATLY appreciated. -Sean

Hi Sean, From your description, I understand that the Outlook is not able to logon Exchange with VPN connection. Nevertheless, if the user bring laptop to company, the Outlook is able to connect to Exchange with no problem. If I misunderstood your means, please let me know. Regarding the issue, I suggest you firstly check the Application Log on the Exchange Server. Whether you are able to get the 9646 event? If I am right, I suggest you install the following update to turn off default SNP features and check the issue again: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948496/en-us More Information: Windows 2003 Scalable Networking pack and its possible effects on Exchange http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2007/07/18/446400.aspx Mike

Hi Mike, Thanks for the information. I have to wait to try this update. The user is now out of the country. Just so that you are aware, we are planning on upgrading to 2003 SBS very soon (then 2008 after that) and we understand that the SBS 2000 platform is not sustainable,
