Outlook .pst file obviously became corrupted, how to fix it?

Hello all,

I tried to open my MS Outlook 2010 and couldnt open it. I started scanpst and it showed me: "The Microsoft Outlook Inbox Repair Tool does not recognize the file <filename>. No Information can be recovered."

Does anybody have a fix or have any suggestions?

Starting with a new pst-file
If you cannot recover your pst-file anymore, then you must create a new pst-file to be able to start Outlook again. You can do this via the Mail applet in Control Panel.

By using the Data Files button, you can add and remove pst-files to your Outlook mail profile. In this case, youll need to add one and set it as the default.

If this fails as well, then you should recreate your mail profile entirely.

If Scanpst.exe cannot repair the file, you should restore it from backup. When no valid PST backup is available, you may use

If you are using an Exchange account, the tool does not connect to or analyze the data saved on the Exchange server. You must exit Outlook before using the Inbox Repair tool. It is not accessible within Outlook.

  • Open Windows Exporer  and select the drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE14 folder.

  • Double click on Scanpst.exe.

  • In the Enter the name of the file you want to scan box, enter the name of the PST and click on Browse.

  • To specify the scan log options, click Options, and then click the option that you want.

  • If an error is found, you are prompted to start the repair process to fix the errors.

  • Click on Repair.

  • Start Outlook with profile that contain the PST file that you want to repair.

  • In the Navigation Pane, Click Folder List.

In the Folder List > Recovered Personal Folders > contain Lost & Found folder.

You can create an Outlook Data File and drag the items in the Lost and Found folder into the new data file. When you have finished moving all the items, you can remove the Recovered Personal Folders file, including Lost and Found folder, from your profile.

You should use scanpst.exe tool first: For information about scanpst.exe tool, you can visit this link: http://www.outlookxperts.com/scanpst.exe.html

and, in case, if scanpst.exe facility fails to work as you said, you can also use this free method for getting back your .pst database.
