I have .local domain with exchange 2003 webmail (.com) accounts ms outlook 2007 clients (1 .local and 1 POP3) originally, all default email accounts are set to .local exchange. but outbound emails are not forwarding to the web. plus the fact that my users were complaining why they have .local and .com accounts and which one to use when. finally, i had to set the default sending account to the POP3. still, when they select the TO button, the GLOBAL ADDRESS LIST shows AD objects. i had to go to each client and set the default address book to the Outlook Contacts folder. what i want, with your help, is to set default email accounts back to the .local and make exchange realize where to route an email, whether it is supposed to be sent via .local or via POP3. i am sure this is possible but i just can't find the way. please help.

Hi, Please let me know whether I understand your configuration correctly: Two Accounts are configured in Outlook Profiles. An Exchange Account connects to Exchange Server and a POP3/SMTP account connects to external mail server (for example: hotmail.com). If I understand current situation correctly, I would like to explain if you submit message by using Exchange Account, the message is submitted by Outlook to Exchange Server and Exchange Server is responsible for processing the message. If the message is submitted by using POP3/SMTP account, the mail server configured in the POP3/SMTP account is responsible for process and deliver the message. Mike

Sorry mike for the delay. I was waiting for a notification in my email address but nothing pops up. i was just checking other posts when i accidentally saw your reply. must check on my notification service. anyway, i am completely aware of that. but i know that my local exchange account should be able to forward\relay or push external emails to the web if the TO: account is not locally available (Example: myemail@exchange.local sends an email to myemail@hotmail.com) automatically, right? funny thing is, it works for gmail.com accounts but not to others, especially those belonging to our own .com accounts?! i have even added CONTACT objects into AD so that it will be available in the \Global Address List but if i do try to send to it, NDR pops up! please help!

I would like to explain that it is hard to locate the root cause of the mail loop if we do not understand the current configuration correctly as the issue can be caused by several factors. We may need to contact CSS regarding the issue in case we are not able to locate the root cause. At this time, please let me know: 1. Whether only one Exchange 2003 Server exists in the environment? If only one Exchange Server exists in the environment, whether the Exchange Server deliver message to external domain directly or through Smart Host? 2. How many SMTP connectors are configured and please let me know the configuration information. 3. Please let me know the Recipient Policy configured on the Exchange organization. How many domains are configured as authoritative domain? 4. Whether the issue occurs when sending to all external domains recipients by using Exchange account or only specific domain recipients. 5.
