Out of office email when someone sends to a distribution list
Exchange 2003. What I'm trying to do is, we have a distribution group called CRs. That group has 4 members. When someone sends an email to CRs@domain.com I would like a confirmation to be sent. I assumed this could be done by somehow setting an Out of Office message for the actual distribution group. I am unsure how to do something like this if it is at all even possible, or what would need to be done to make it possible. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks

I don't think you can set Out of Office for a DL. That's a mailbox function. You could create a dummy account and add it to the DL and set the message there, but the OOF throttling will limit the replies to one per sender, regarless of how many emails they send. It keeps track of who it't replied to, and won't send another reply if it's already sent one to that person. You have to toggle the OOF rule off and back on to reset the counters. You can use a server-side rule (again on a mailbox) to send the reply and it will get sent for every message received, but you can also start a mail loop if the sender also has an auto-reply enabled.[string](0..33|%{[char][int](46+("686552495351636652556262185355647068516270555358646562655775 0645570").substring(($_*2),2))})-replace " "

see this: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvradmin/thread/4c930f81-72ad-4182-b340-c08d32b175e9/ To get a confirmation, you may request a Delivery Receipt or Read receipt. It will ask for a receipt for every member of the distribution group.Fiona
