Out of office assistant... HELP PLEASE!
Having an issue with my out of office assistant. Internally it works great. Externally however it does not.I have already gone into my exchange 2003 server and made sure everything was properly checked. Allow out of office responses has been enabled under the advanced tab. I have also tried restarting the SMTP, MTA and routing services with no luck. Any idea what I can try next?Thanks.Ok... Not sure what the heck is going on.. Maybe someone can explain to me... For example.. I have 2 email addys. 1 is defualt smtp and the other is not. If I send an email from external account to my NON defualt email account I get the reply fine. But If I send it to my defualt SMTP I dont get anything... Seem odd to you guys?

OK so disregard what I said about it working for non defualt and not working for defualt. It worked one time and now nothing works.. Nothing has changed on the server. I have no clue what to try now. I guess I can try rebooting the server. But I would like to not have to do that.

The issue has to be on my end... I check message history on my exchange server and I do not even see anything being sent out. It seems very hit and miss. I sent 5 emails to myself from outside domians... I see in my message history under tracking 1 auto reply sent out. What happened to the other 4? Why did exchange only pick 1 of them to reply too? Any ideas on how I could troubleshoot this?

Hi,
I understand that the Out of Office feature didnt work properly on your account when sending the email from external domain.
Actually, the out of office feature depends on the settings of Exchange Server and client. Both of them have to be configured correctly, otherwise it will not function if anyone is missing.
The primary requirement is ensure the Out of office was enabled.
1. Start Exchange System Manager.
2. Double-click Global Settings, and then click Internet Message Formats.
3. In the details pane, right-click a domain name, and then click Properties.
Note: By default, "*" is the SMTP domain which includes all the external domain.
4. In the Default Properties dialog box, click Advanced, and then click to select the Allow out of office responses check box.
This allows out-of-office reply messages to be sent under this SMTP policy.
After that, please confirm the type of the client that you used. Please understand that different type of the client has respective settings. For your reference, I have included the link about each configuration for the client.

Outlook Web Access:

If the above settings are set correctly but the issue persists, we need to check whether the email that you sent from the Internet were reached on your Exchange account. If you received the email that came from the Internet email, this indicates that the client has the problem. Please rebuild the user account of the email to test this issue.
According to your latest description, I found only one Auto Reply was sent out even though you had sent 5 emails. Before going on, I would like to confirm whether you sent the 5 emails from the same external domain a day. If so, please understand that is by design. The design for the AutoReply is only one email will be sent a day for the same sender.
Thanks
Allen
