Orphaned OST files
Hello,In a accident one of our admin deleted 2 users and mailboxes from exchange which resulted in user deletion in AD as well. We have recreated the users in AD however this is with different SID and the emails are gone. We have a OST backup done from their PC and need help to either link the OST back to the mailbox or extract the emails in a PST. Please share if there is any Microsoft or free alternative. I do not with to spend on this unless needed.Regards~Sabby

Don't do anything with the .OST files. You can reconnect the old mailbox. The first two links are for Exchange 2003, the last one for Exchange 2007. As a last resort, restore to a Recovery Storage Group. Then you'll need to restore those two mailboxes from your backup to an RSG and link them to the two newly created user accounts. We have LCS enabled on exhcnage cluster and dont perform regular backup only once in a month. I could see on mailbox store properties : Keep deleted mailboxes is set to 30 days however the check box for do no permanently delete until next backup is not checked . I do not see any mailbox in disconnected mailbox store. Is there any other way i could recover. ~Sabby

In a feeble-minded state I at least twice forgot to do this:In the Console tree (left): Recipient Configuration, Disconnected Mailbox. Then in the Action Pane, Connect to Server ... Also Refresh Do also try this:Use the Clean-MailboxDatabase cmdlet to scan the Active Directory directory service for disconnected mailboxes that are not yet marked as disconnected in the Microsoft Exchange store and update the status of those mailboxes in the Exchange store. This cmdlet is not able to update the Exchange store unless the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service is running and the database is mounted: [PS] C:\>Get-MailboxDatabase | Clean-MailboxDatabaseMCTS: Messaging | MCSE: S+M | Small Business Specialist
