OriginatingServer is not from the same domain than E2007 Servers
Hi all, Does anybody knows, should I worry if my Storage Group's OriginatingServer is not from the same domain than Exchange servers are members? In the site, there are multiple DC from multiple domains, so basically it should not be a problem. By some reason the google where not able to describe what that attribute really means. -- Petri

Is that DC is the same AD site?

I beleive it just means the DC that EMS used to get the information. It shouldn't matter because that information comes from the Configuration naming context, which is present on all domain controllers in the forest.-- Ed Crowley MVP"There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems.". I though to not worry that also, but still I would like to understand what our Exchange does. As you see, if that does not matter and Exchange is using naming context there should not be such attribute and value at all. Or I'm just too paranoid :D -- Petri

Sorry, I didnt catch that it was the same AD site - Exchange will favor DCs that are in-site. A quick way to see what DCs the Exch Server uses, look for event 2080 in the app log:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316300Some use to recommend a dedicated AD site for just the Exchange servers. With 2007/2010, that recommendation has gone away. Now it used to be that clients were referred to a DC within the same AD site as well. After Exchange 2003 Sp2, a GC within the same domain as the client is preferred:http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2006/03/17/422350.aspx

No problem, but how about the original question, "what is OriginatingServer attribute on the database and what does it mean for Exchange store?" -- Petri

I beleive it is what Ed mentioned and that it is simply the DC the information came from.

Yep, I tested with -DomainController switch and that change its value. Many thanks to both of you! -- Petri
