Open Notebook.onetoc2 Files in Every Folder

I got a new laptop with Office 2013 at work and I saw there were Open Notebook.onetoc2 Files appearing in every folder on my PC and on the network. I removed One Note from office but it looks like the files are still appearing. I want to stop this from happening. I don't use One Note and don't know why these files are being created in every folder.

Thank you...Michael Robinson

Hi Michael,

By "every folder", do you mean every windows folder or every OneNote notebook folder?

.onetoc2 is a Microsoft OneNote index file that stores information about the order of note-taking sections. It is used to organize a collection of notes in a notebook.

Basically, the .onetoc2 files only appear in OneNote notebook folders. Some malware camouflage themselves as OneNote Table Of Contents .onetoc2 files. Please check the .onetoc2 files on your computer to see if they are the culprits.

Please let me know the result.
