Onenote 2010 and Excel link issue

Hi

I have an issue with Onenote with excel link.

In Onenote, if i create a link to an excel spreadsheet on local C drive, then no issues.

However, if i create a link to an excel on sharepoint or anywhere on HTTP, the sometimes when you click on the link, excel will not fire up. It is adhoc issue... it may work 3 times, then on 4th time nothing happens. It is just random. If i fire up Task manager, and see whats happening, i can see that excel starts.... then just dies and nothing happens.

I have no problems with other type of documents... its just excel that is causing this issues.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

David

Hi,

Firstly, you can try the steps below to narrow down the issue:

1. Try to open the file from SharePoint directly when this issue happens to clarify if the issue is related to the SharePoint.

2. Create a new file locally, upload it to SharePoint library and test if it can be opened.

In addition, you can try the solution below:

1. According to your description, when this happens, you can see excel starts from Task manager. Just end excel task to check if it can be opened.

2. Delete existing hyperlinks and created a new one to check if it works.

Hope this helps.

Hi Steve

Thanks for your reply.

Tried your suggested troubleshooting tips already.

I have tried several excel documents on sharepoint, as well as non sharepoint web location. All same issues. May work for first few attemps, but then you get adhoc ones that does not launch. Opening from sharepoint or web location direct is fine.

When the excel link fails to launch, watching the task manager, the excel process starts up... then just ends straight away. Tried several links... to different documents, etc, and all have same effects.

Just wondering if you were able to replicate my issue?

Im on Win7, with Office 2010, and One Note 2010.

Thanks, DM.
