OneNote not showing some images
On some pages, screenshots, which have been inserted with OneNote 2010 are not shown in OneNote 2013. I only see a frame with a red X in it. Other users with the 2010 version still see the screenshot. Any ideas?

We have had similar issues with our shared OneNote 2010 setup as well. It worked fine until one of our users upgraded to OneNote 2013 and this appears to have caused the damage.  I think you may find that if you clear your local OneNote cache out (see OneNote /safeboot), neither OneNote 2010 or 2013 will display the images or attached documents.  Pages that OneNote 2013 has not touched seem to be working fine.  I have no ideas yet?

The same thing happened to me when I uninstalled Office 2010 and installed 2013. Some of my notebooks exhibited the behavior and some did not. This worked for me: I closed the notebook and reopened it.

Tried that and much more. Ended up using the persons OneNote 2013 local cache to pull the images out and re-insert them into the affected OneNote notebooks. A bit of a muck around to sort which images should go where, but it is done now. :(

I hope it does not happen again.

Had the same problem on a section with large number of pages and thousands of images when I upgraded to OneNote 2013 from 2010. I solved it by closing the notebook and re-opening it! The images are back and the red x is gone! Whew!

I have several thousands files in the local cache, which are all .onebin files. After I change the extension from .onebin to the origin, such as .png, the cache file can be open by double click. But whether with the extension of .onebin or .png, the image didn't show up in OneNote 2013. Now I still can not solve it. :(

Feb. 21,2013: If the cache files of onenote 2010 are still exist, reinstall onenote 2013 would solve this problem.

I tried doing a Online Repair of Office 2013 from Office365. The repair failed with an error saying i was out of diskspace or did not have an internet connection (both not true).

This left me with Office 2013 *completely uninstalled*. Or so I thought.

I tried to reinstall from Office365, but then I was told I had a pre-release version installed of Office 2013 (which I have never had).

The support page I was redirected to had a FixIt tool I could download (from IE only BTW), which resolved this, and allowed me to completely reinstall Office 2013.

After the reinstall, and after retrying closing and opening the workbook with the missing images,  its still not resolved.

I noticed that this book has some sync issues towards skydrive, and I cannot seem to get the sync completely done. it says "last synced at RIGHTNOW", but the status message is always "waiting for updates". Could possibly be the real cause.

I still have my Onenote 2010 installed, and the cache is present (with the missing images) at

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\OneNote\14.0\OneNoteOfflineCache_Files

@madsnissen The issue may be that you still have OneNote 2010 installed while trying to use OneNote 2013. I suggest uninstalling 2010. ^CB

--> However Office 2010 is actually uninstalled from my machine - only the caches are left. The only 2010 application that was still installed was Visio 2010 and some supporting tools (Upload utility etc), and uninstalling that made no difference (there is no longer a general Microsoft Office 2010 entry in my add/remove programs list).

Slight background on my environment: Went from Windows 7 x64 with OneNote 2010 x86 on one machine, to Windows 8 x64 with OneNote 2013 x86. Used to keep these files on our network share, but now I keep them in SharePoint.

---- I've had this same issue come up after getting Windows 8 Enterprise and Office 2013 Enterprise on a new machine we have here at the office. OneNote 2010 was working on my old machine, but suddenly I started noticing pictures on some of my most crucial Tabs were missing (Box with Red X, like you've mentioned) on my new Windows 8 box.

Luckily, I managed to copy my old cache files from AppData\Microsoft\Office\15\OneNote... etc.. from my 2010 box to my 2013 box, which seemed to fix the issue, but then my situation was reverted. After this change, I noticed that my old box with OneNote 2010 on it wasn't seeing the pictures... which threw me for a loop!!

After looking over the situation, I thought of a plan to 'Export' the Tab that had the working pictures and replace this with the Tab that was causing me issues (pictures with Red Xs).

I exported the Tab off of my Windows 8 box and placed that Export onto a network share that both my Win7 and Win8 boxes could see, I then opened the Section from that network share and used the 'Move' option to get that duplicate Tab into my Notebook that had the trouble Tab as well.

To finalize this move, I renamed the Exported Tab and deleted the old, non-working tab with the Red X symptom. After trying to sync, you may be prompted with an error on file locations being moved or renamed. To counter that, I went onto our SharePoint, where the OneNote is being stored, and saw that the newly named Tab was appearing there. After opening the newly named Tab from there, the sync finished in a matter of seconds, and my tab had been restored!!! For honor and glory!

i tried this

right click on selected notebook > close this Notebook

and then 

File > open >notebook

you can find the notebook that you closed in the "recent" section when you select file>open.

just select your notebook. and you will be able to see all your images again.

Help! -- there is still no fix for this. I have tried closing individual notebooks, closing OneNote, deleting all cache files. More images are disappearing. I am on 2010 and the two coworkers I work on the files with are on 2013. Is there a fix available besides close/re-open? That is not working. The images are disappearing from my files and also my coworkers, and it is not consistent. More have disappeared as I've tried to troubleshoot. Help?

just select your notebook. and you will be able to see all your images again.

I had 10 years of pics and graphics disappear overnight. My backup hard disk crashed a couple days ago.  
The corruption may have been caused from a Windows Live installation, not sure, but THIS SOLUTION WORKS!  (Close each individual notebook, then reopen it!  I did one at a time.  It takes awhile to reload.)

I've spent several hours and can not get text or images to appear when I do a Screen Clip in OneNote 2013 on a Windows 7 machine.  Have tried all suggestions, including the above closing and reopening notebooks, coping to clipboard first and then copying to OneNote, etc.  

All that shows in OneNote is a box with a red x in the top left corner.

HELP?

I have repaired Office, closed the NoteBook and opening a new one, but neither of these things worked.
