OneNote 2013 Sign In - window pops up and immediately disappears

I've just installed OneNote 2013 (which I've downloaded from the http://onenote.com/) on Windows 7 x64 and I'm unable to sign in with Microsoft Account.

When I click on the "Sign In" button in the "Sign In Required" dialog" a new windows pops up and immediately disappears.

I tried to reset IE and to remove SkyDrive related records from Credential Manager, but these didn't help.

So, I'm wondering if there any way to fix this problem.

P.S. Maybe this forum is not the best place for such question, so if somebody can point to a better place I will be really appreciate it.

Hi,

Does this issue happen the first time you open OneNote?

We can try to open OneNote with /safeboot command to delete currupted OneNote settings to check if it helps. To do this, click Start > Run, type: onenote /safeboot in the Run box and press Enter. Then click Delete Settings button to open OneNote.

We can also try to run a repair of your Office installation to check the result:

If above not fix this issue, please try to create a new Windows user account and check if this issue will continue.

Hi Steve!

Thank you for your response.

1. Safeboot didn't help, I deleted settings file but after OneNote started I've got the same issue.

2. Installation repairing didn't help too.

3. But with a newly created user OneNote successfully started.

BTW, my laptop is a part of AD domain. So usually I'm working as a domain user which is also a local administrator. But the newly created user was a local user and a member of Administrators group.

And, I have Office 2007, Outlook 2010 and Lync 2010 installed on the laptop in addition to the OneNote 2013. I also have SkyDrive App installed.

The problem is still here :)

When I start OneNote 2013, it shows "Please wait while we set up your notes / Retrieving user credentials" dialog, and then "Sign in required / Please sign in with a Microsoft account to continue".

After that, when I click "Sign in" button, a mysterious window pops up and immediately disappears.

And it works fine with a new local account.

So, what can I do to make OneNote work with my main account?

Sergey,

I was experiencing the exact same issue with my domain account. I had to do two things in order to resolve the issue:

First, I had to exclude my account from the proxy settings group policy on our domain (if you are not the sysadmin for your domain, you may want to bring this issue up with your sysadmin, assuming that you even have a proxy set up).

Second, I had to open up the online version of OneNote, sign in, open my Notebook, and then choose "Open in OneNote". This launched OneNote on my computer and came up with a login screen that asked for my credentials. I entered them in and the problem was solved. I can now open up OneNote directly from my PC without issues.

Thanks. I skipped step one, and the second step fixed the problem for me.

My fix was to simply close OneNote 2013. Found that I was still login to OneDrive in my browser (Chrome) so I logged off of OneDrive. When I restarted OneNote 2013 it connected to OneDrive and synced data with out me doing anything.

Your solution works for me, was able to get one note 2013 to open up via the web browser.

Sergey

Have you tried to first sign in with your Microsoft account at login.live.com (select Keep me signed in) and then open OneNote?

Just doing the second step worked for me as well. The screen clipping functionality wasn't working though until I restarted OneNote itself.

Opening OneNote's web version and asking it to open in OneNote solved the problem...

Thanks

#2 worked for me.  Problems like this shouldn't exist in the first place, but that was a great solution.
