Hi.
This are the first result of my analysis about this new annoying problem:
Testing systems:
-
(1) Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate edition en-US language version 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
-
(2) Windows 7 64 bit Enterprise edition it-IT language version 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601 on Vmware workstation guest machine with 2 snapshots, one clean and the other where I already used OneDrive in the last
days, before October CU.
-
(3) Windows 7 64 bit Professional edition it.IT (still to be tested)
Microsoft Office versions retrieved from Word on the first two computers:
-
Microsoft Word 2013 (15.0.4659.1000) MSO (15.0.4659.1001) 64 bit part of Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013 en-US on first pc
-
Microsoft Word 2013 (15.0.4659.1000) MSO (15.0.4659.1001) 64 bit part of Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013 it-IT on virtual machine
All was ok before the updates of the 14 october. Now, after updates, this is the situation:
On pc 1, as I have already written, MOUC informs me at every reboot that cache needs to be repaired, repair, then OneDrive starts correctly but remains in stale state, no progress in download, upload, refresh, etc. After deleting the cache
directories, this message (as in picture) appears: Onedrive for business needs to close because of a hardware or a configuration problem. Error Description: Unspecified error HRESULT: 0x80004005 AssertTag: 0x001be060.
This situation is reproducible in fact, on machine 2 with the snapshot where office was already installed and used,
the situation is exactly the same.
On machine 2 starting from the clean vm snapshot, then installing Office 2013 Pro Plus and then updating before having ever used OneDrive, everything is ok, given the fact I use OneDrive only after the whole update process.
Given those clues, maybe the problem arise when OneDrive has been already
used before the Update process. Maybe the update process corrupts some of the files, maybe otherwise the updates has some logic that conflicts with the old one.
With much probability, although yet not tested, it could fix the issue the complete removal of OneDrive data, complete uninstallation of Office 2013, and then reinstall, complete update before use again OneDrive for business. I will try
this way to see whether it succeeds, but
ANYWAY IT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE TO FORCE USERS (I have a 30+ clients forest in my domain!!!) TO COMPLETELY UNINSTALL OFFICE IN ORDER TO USE ONEDRIVE FOR BUSINESS, AN IMPORTANT BIT OF SHAREPOINT ONLINE, PART OF OFFICE 365!!! (What about
SLAs???)
