OneDrive Pro for Business opens synced files from online location

I have a weird issue with OneDrive Pro for Business.  I have a few installs where a synced library file will not open from the local copy, but from the online location.  Basically, I can sync a document library to my local machine, and when I double-click on a file in that library folder, the file will open the document over the network (the document "location" is the site URL) instead of opening it locally ("location" would be "c:\users\....").  In most other installs in my organization, it opens the local version of the document then syncs back to the network location.

Any ideas/help/guidance would be appreciated.

Hi,

Based on my knowledge, OneDrive for Business client stores a copy of the file on the local computer, and when you open the file, it should be local. Once you make any changes to the file, it's stored on local first, then tries to sync with the library.

Has the user signed in with the same account in Office, such as Word, Excel?

Could you please let me know how you could tell the document was opened over the network? Please provide a screenshot if possible. If there's any private information, you can send the image to our email address:

Hi Melon,

When I open the file from the local directory, as an Office application opens, there's a splash page that says"Opening..." and the path it lists is the web URL of the document.  Sorry, this is moving too quickly today, so I'm having trouble capturing it in a screenshot.

Additionally, when the file is open, in the Document Information Panel, the "location" is the URL of the SharePoint location rather than the local folder path.  Here's a screenshot of the information panel of an Excel workbook that I opened from the local folder

UPDATE: One thing we just noticed is that this only seems to affect Office documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc) as PDF files open locally.  We opened a PDF file from the local sync directory, and it not only opened quickly, but it also had the location as the local directory.

FYI, we are running Office 2013
