I have downloaded a copy of Microsoft Office Pro 2013 Home Use Programme and the initial set up file will not run.  I have uninstalled the copy of office 97 that I did have, through the MS Officer uninstaller tool. Now however when i try to run the new install file all I get is the following message (I've removed the product code elements and replaced them with XX's!):

C:\Documents and Settings\Main\Desktop.x86.en-US_ProPlusRetail_XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX_act_1.exe is not a valid Win32 application.

I have work to do and now I've uninstalled the old copy of Office 97 I'm stuck!  Can anyone help?  I've been through the proper links that came via the home use programme site I used to buy the product.  Am I right in assuming that there is no problem with the download and there is something wrong with my OS? I'm using Windows XP if that makes a difference?

Please help - I'm not a computer buff so any answers need to be simple please!!!

I am not sure but maybe you're using Windows XP 32 bits and you're trying to install the 64 bits version of Microsoft Office 2013.

This is what comes to my mind right now. Maybe, someone with more experience could help you but bear in mind your Windows and Office versions (32 or 64 bits).

Many thanks for your help Altusan.  Unfortunately the problem was one  of my stupidity!  I was in a rush when I clicked on the product I wanted and got the version needing Windows 7 or 8 rather than the one which would have been supported by XP!!

A quick download of Windows 8 and everything is working properly.  Now all I need to do is work out how to get the most out of Windows 8!!!

Office Pro 2013 will only work on Windows 7 or 8.
