Office repair and MSOCache

Hi guys,

does anyone know what happens exactly, when I repair my office (2010)  installation? Afaik I know, the msocache folder is used (if it exists).

Does the msocache folder contain only the original source files? What about servicepacks and hotfixes? Will these newer files be used in the repair process ? Is the msocache folder upated with the installation of servicepacks/hotfixes?

Thanks in advance

Hans

Hi,

After some research I have found something about this, but not all.

The Local Install Source(Msocache) feature is installed so that you do not have to insert the CD during the following Setup operations:
  • The Detect and repair operation
  • The Demand install operation
  • The Maintenance mode setup operation
  • The installation of service packs and updates

I haven't found any documentary statement about whether the Msocache folder contains only the original source files, but after some testing by downloading and installing some Office updates, the Msocache size doesn't change, so my assumption is it only contains the original source files and it doesn't get updated with the installation of other updates.
