Office for Mac crashes every time I open it

Hi there, I was redirected to this page, hope you can help.

I just bought Office for Mac 15.13.1 and I cannot use it. Every time I open Word or Excel it crashes within about 1 minutes. Below I will post the error message I get. Please could you let me know how I can fix this problem.

Hi barrmatt,

Did you get any error messages when Excel or Word crashed?

Based on your description, you have upgraded to the current version of Office.

First I suggest you view the crash report, you can go to ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter to see if there is a crash log for the application that is crashing.

If a particular application is crashing, you may find a crash log in /Library/Logs/CrashReporter/ or /Users/you/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/.

Crash logs are meant for developers and they are difficult for most users to understand. Hopefully, you can get a clue as to what is causing the problem from the logs that will help find a solution.

And I also suggest you try to reinstall Office for Mac 2016, and update it to 15.13.1.

About how to completely uninstall before you reinstall, please refer to this article:

Hope it's helpful.

This is actually a widespread problem (I have it to) based on disparate but similar reports on various Microsoft and Office forums. Word and/or Excel and/or PowerPoint crash after ca. 1 minute, making the software unusable. Like others, I've already been trouble-shooting this for a couple of days and have tried all the recommended steps, from rebooting in safe mode and repairing permissions, fixing fonts, fully uninstalling/reinstalling, etc. It's a new problem too, for me within the past 1-2 weeks (although similar reports seem to have been sporadic over the summer).
