Office 365 hanging / crashing but not while through RDP session

Outlook 2013 / Outlook 365 hanging / crashing but not while through RDP session

This problem started occurring while I was using Outlook 2010 and continued when we switched to 2013 and then 365.

The problem manifests in a few different ways after I recieve an email, but sending does not seem to trigger it:

Clicking on an email in the folder view fails to show the email body in the preview pane.
The functions on the ribbon stop responding.
If I have an email open already, and I paste text or an image into the email, it will not show the pasted object until I click in the email body.
The spelling and grammar auto-correct feature will stop working if I am in the middle of writing an email.
The Send button will not work.
Switching between Favorites links generates an exception and the application crashes.

I have around 8 archive.pst files totaling about 30 GB of data. Early on I suspected these were causing my problem but they were detached and the problem persists.

If I am connected to my machine via Remote Desktop the problem NEVER manifests.

Wiped the OS drive and re-installed Windows. I also reinstalled Outlook.

I deleted my calendar but that did not resolve the issue.

Starting Outlook in Safe Mode has no effect.

Disabling all Outlook add-ins had no effect.

Starting Outlook with the resetnavpane switch had no effect.

Creating a new user did not resolve the issue.

Deleting my mailbox did not resolve the issue.

I checked / unchecked cache mode, did not resolve the issue.

365 business.

Windows 7 64 bit and it is up to date.

The problem starts when I receive ANY email. When Outlook gets into the bad state after receiving email it will not send/receive anymore.

Te web application behaves normally.

I have spent hours searching for solutions to my problem and found only one post that matched (see below). Sadly there was no solution posted.

Hi,

For crash issues, I suggest you perform a clean boot to determine whether background programs are interfering with Outlook:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796/en-us

If you still haven't found anything in a clean boot, I suggest you open a Premier Outlook case for this issue directly,
as you may need to collect the dump to analyze the deep cause of this issue.
