Office 365 ProPlus: user is re-prompted to activate every 30 days

Hi there,

yet another "until you prove this is a normal behaiviour of the product, I assume this is an error":

User is licensed for 365 ProPlus.
Every 30 days, user is prompted to "Activate Office" while starting Outlook or Lync.

Therefore my Customer demands to suppress such messages, because all glossy brochures are stating, that this happens automatically in the background.

I assume this is a normal behaviour of the product, but I cannot find any documentation.
Dose anyone have a hint for me?

Kind Regards
Wolfgang

Hi,

As you may have known, Office 365 ProPlus doesnt require a constant connection to the Internet to work correctly, but it does need to connect at least once every 30 days to verify the license status. One way to verify connectivity is to access the following URL:

https://ols.officeapps.live.com/olsc/OlsClient.svc

If successful, you should see a page that resembles this one:

A portion of a web page showing the text

If you dont see this page, check for other configurations that might be preventing Office 365 ProPlus from connecting to the Internet, such as firewall or proxy server settings. In particular, verify that no firewalls are blocking ports 443 and 80, and that HTTPS traffic is allowed over TCP on port 443.

As the activation seems ok if the user suppresses it, the connection is fine. Anyway try it and let me know the result.

Does this issue occur to one specific user, or all users?

We can try repairing Office from Control Panel -> Programs and Features if this only occurs to one user. Or run "sfc /scannow" in the command line to scan all protected system files and replace the incorrect versions with the correct Microsoft versions.
