Office 2013 home & Business - Proxy security

HI all

I have tried to report this to MS but no one wants to listen. Perhaps someone can throw some light on the matter. Many machine installed in last 7 months - all identical with WIN 7 + MS Office 2013 Home & Business.

All behaving fine after disabling the "internet connection" via options & security setting. Additionally had to impose a registry change for every user on the machine to disable "useonlinecontent"

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\Internet
"UseOnlineContent"=dword:00000000

Initially whenever WORD or EXCEL started it wanted to go to various sites but the above has put a stop to this.

Now a site emerges on the scene and is "messaging.office.com". No one knows what this site is doing or why the start of WORD or EXCEL forces the security screen - we just cancel three times and all is fine.

This is becoming irritating and searching the internet I find that this site is registered to Microsoft in the Netherlands.

Can anyone throw some light on this matter as all the machines are getting this now and it seems to have been after silent office update recently.

Does this have anything to do with instant messenger which MS have imbedded in office to force user to utilise SKYPE?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi,

I've noticed some users are facing this issue recently:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/8654af5e-a1bf-413c-b552-ad1075bc75c7/why-is-office-trying-to-connect-to-messagingofficecom?forum=officeitpro

Since I'm not sure of the cause yet, please let me know if you have installed any update before the issue occurred. Please also let me know your Office build number, you can get this from any Office application in the section "FILE -> (Office) Account -> About Word(or other application name)".

Hi

thank you for your response.

I have installed few identical systems and the issue started to happen last week. I cannot be sure of any updates that could be the cause. However, the web site is "messaging.office.com". If you check on the site "ipaddress.com" and check for this web site it suggests that it belongs to MS registered in the Netherlands. I have tried to report this to MS but they are only interested in getting my credit card first.

I think this has something to do Instant messaging coupled with SKYPE and LYNC server that could be imbedded within MS office package.

Is there anyway of disabling this ?

The information you want as for the product is below:

M/S Word 2013 (15.0.4727.1000) MSO (15.0.4727.1003) 32-bit

Product id= 00196-21072-15601-AA733

I have seen the link you refer to and have implemented the disabling access to internet from MS office via registry change for all computers.

Results of OffCAT is as follows:

WORD:

You have Microsoft Office Home and Business 2013 installed. It does not support the Information Rights Management feature.

OUTLOOK:

The '-1' client is configured as the default Instant Messaging provider. This is not necessarily a problem configuration. But, if you are using a Microsoft IM client (Lync, Communicator or Skype) as your IM client you may need to modify the registry.

Click the 'Tell me more ...' link for details.

EXCEL:

You have Microsoft Office Home and Business 2013 installed. It does not support the Information Rights Management feature.

=======

Thank you.
