Office 2010 auto updates not turned ON

When you install Office 2010 the first time, after it is complete with the install and you open it the first time, you get a pop up window that gives you three options to get updates.  Option 1 and 2 gives you updates and some more.  If you choose option 3 you get NO updates and it does not add a check-box option under windows update settings that says "Give me updates for Microsoft products...".

My question is that, If you choose option 3 and you get no updates for office when you run windows update, HOW DO YOU GO BACK AND CHOOSE TO GET UPDATES FOR OFFICE?  I want to get that first window that you get after the install that gives you the three update options and i cannot find it anywhere.  I cannot turn office update back ON so it gets updated when i run windows update!

Any help will be appreciated.  I'm using office 2010 Pro Plus on windows 7 ultimate.

Thank you.

Hi,

What’s the version of your operating system?

You may turn on Automatic Updates by the steps below if you are using Vista or Windows 7:

1.      Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button, clicking All Programs, and then clicking Windows Update.

2.      In the left pane, click Change settings.

3.      Choose the option that you want.

4.      Under Recommended updates, select the Include recommended updates when downloading, installing, or notifying me about updates check box, and then click OK.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

If you are using XP, try this:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/windowsupdate/learn/windowsxp.mspx

Just had the same problem you discribe with same OS and Office verisons you listed.  Suggested solution didn't work.  Windows update displayed as up to date but there were no OFFICE patches displayed in Install Patches list.

No media, so did not want to uninstall but did do a repair...no go...same results.

Opened Word, File, Help, and clicked on the "Check for Updates", but the redirector consistantly failed.

FIXED BY:

Creating a second user, adding to Administrators group, log on as new user, and when prompted by the wizard, made selection, rebooted and logged back on as new user.

Windows update then began displaying needed OFFICE patches.

Well, the issue for me not being able to reactivate Updates was the following: Using a combination of Win 7 & Office 2010, and having switched off when installing Office 2010, and not being able switching on again. * Click Windows Update * Click the last line on the right site which says " Updates for other MS Products" or something similar (sorry made no notice) THIS WILL OPEN an IE browser window, which stays WHITE because the site is incompatible with the new Internet-Explorer * click on the broken leaflet and run Internet Explorer in compatibility mode, * you will get a site now * download file on site Now you should be able to download your Office 2010 updates through Windows Update.

THIS WAS IT!!

Thanks very much. It was another IE incompatibility. Since it was an MS site, it would have taken me a long time to work it out...
