Office 2010 Context menu displaying English even though French MUI selected

Office 2010 32-bit on Windows 7 64-bit OS

When right-clicking on an Office document from Explorer with the French Language Pack selected via Regional Settings, part of the menu is displayed in English as follows:

This only occurs for extensions associated to Office 2010 i.e. right-clicking on a txt file displays all French items.

Ideas as why this is happening?

Hi,

It seems the issue is more related to the language version of operation system. The Office MUI packs are used to change the Display and Help language when you use Office programs. They wouldnt be used to change the context menu in Windows Explorer. I would suggest you test installing the Office suite on a French version system.

Hello,

Check out the link below. It may help you.

The language version of the OS is French.  The original image we use to deploy is based on English with French language pack installed.  During deployment we use control.exe intl.cpl to switch the display language to French if the user selects French in the Task Sequence Wizard in MDT.

So the Display and Help language is French.  Office 2010 recognizes the switch in OS and displays French.

Would not the Office MUI packs control the context menu under explorer? That doesn't seem right?

Hello,

I was able to reproduce your behavior using the French OS Language Pack. However, Office is English and I suspect this is why the options for the Office files are shown in English... I will send you an update after further testing. Thank you!

So I am still suffering from this issue.  I have some further insight.  Just to recap.  Windows 7 build is in English with French Language Pack baked in.  Depending on what the user selects, we use control.exe intl.cpl to change the display language during OS deploy.  Office 2010 is baked into the image.  Being MUI-compliant I expect it to switch based on OS display language detection.  So I have a newly deployed Windows 7 PC English.  Context menu all in English which is good.  I switch language to French via Control Panel.  Log off and back on.  Context menu is as shown above.  Top section is  in English.  I attempt a repair but no change.  I uninstall and reinstall.  Voila I think, all is in French!  However I switch to English via the Control Panel and now have French in the Top Section of the context menu as shown.

I am going to open a call with MS.

I'd be interested to know if there was a solution for this. I have exactly the same issue, however with a Spanish language pack on an English OS.

To uninstall and reinstall is too much of a workaround to warrant it.

Thanks

Hi all

Well the same problem exists in combination with Office 2013.

And: the problem exist at Office - not at Windows 7

What I found out for a (not very usable) solution: you have to edit the registry of the computer (HKCR - HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT). You have to edit every single filetype that has the language-mixture in the context menu.

An example for a Word document (.doc (O2010) / .docx (O2013)) to correct the 'Edit'-Value in the context menu.

HKCR\Word.Document.8\Shell\Edit -> delete the data of the "(Default)"-Value
HKCR\Word.Document.12\Shell\Edit -> delete the data of the "(Default)"-Value

So, IMHO it's the Office-Team that has to change some settings in the setup for any further version - and may they give a fix-it for all those MUI-Installed Systems around the world.

Looking forward to get an answer from any Office-Specialized-Member :-)

Andy
