Office 2010 64bit problems

I'm running a web server on my windows 2007 PC. The website uses MS access 2007 format databases.

To allow my site to talk to the DBs, I installed Microsoft Access database engine 2010 (English)

Now I'm trying to upgrade office 2007 professional to office 2010 professional. I'm running into a lot of problems.

  1. When I opened word, I got messages about Visual Basic Runtime environment could not start. I eventually tracked this back to Adobe acrobat com toolbar add-in. I eventually disabled the add-in and started using the save as PDF option.
  2. External data - Access wizard asks me which database to get data from, but never gives me the screen to select the tables.

I do not get any error messages, but the software does not function as expected. I tried installing Service pact 2 and removing and reinstalling...

what am I doing wrong?

Hi Mike,

>>windows 2007 PC<<, did you mean you're running in Windows 7?

Could you tell me how did you upgrade Office 2007 to Office 2010? Did you uninstall Office 2007 and then install Office 2010? Or you upgraded Office 2007 to Office 2010 directly?

There are three options for upgrading to Office 2010:
In-place upgrade
Uninstall-upgrade
New operating system upgrade

Which kind of option are you using to upgrade to Office 2010? Please provide more information about your issue.

And you can refer to these articles about how to upgrade to Office 2010.

I have a PC running windows 7, not 2007. I had Office 2007 on my PC and ran the 2010 office installation program which removed 2007 and installed 2010. That is when I ran into the problems I stated in my previous post.

I also noticed that the program Microsoft Office Document Imaging was not part of 2010. I researched this and found instructions to reinstall it from 2007. I did this and get a visual basic runtime error when sending text to word. I am told that Word is not installed. I tried installing word 2007 and the error did not resolve. I have since uninstalled 2007 completely. I may have to find a non office product to handle OCR.

Nothing I do seems to correct the problems with Access or Visual basic runtime.

I do not get that error message. I actually do not see any error messages, even for the wizards in Access.

The only error message I get is the message about the visual basic runtime. "The Visual Basic Runtime could not be initialized" but that is not often now that I've disabled all the com add-ins.
