Office 2007 Attachments sending via Exchange 2003
When sending pptx, docx or xlsx attachments via outlook 2007 through exchange 2003 the messages get blocked due to size limits set on the exhcnage server. Normally this is easy to resolve however the file sizes are way under the limit. For example an attachment was 770kb and was blocked via excahnge with NDR "Over restriction (decompressed file size) has been detected,and Quarantine entire message". Now the limit is 25mb so this is not even close. Exchange is misinterpreting the file size of 2007 office attachments. Has anyone come across this? If i save the pptx back to a ppt it sends fine.

Here is what I suspect is happening... Since Office 2007 documents are ZIP-compatible files, your AV solution is viewing them as ZIPs. Based on the NDR, I suspect that your AV is unable to determine the size of the uncompressed data. I would check your AV settings for ZIP files. Good luck, Charles

Hi,Please try this steps before contacting your exchange admin. Rename the file to have a different file name extension If third-party file compression software is not available to you, you might want to request that the sender rename the attachment to use a file name extension that Outlook does not recognize as a threat. For example, an executable file that has the file name extension .exe could be renamed as a Word 97 file that has a .doc file name extension.Ask the sender to resend the renamed attachment to you. After you receive the renamed attachment, you can save it to your computer and rename the file again to use the original file name extension.Follow these steps to save the attachment and rename it to use the original file name extension: Locate the attachment in the e-mail. Right-click the attachment, and then click Copy. Right-click the desktop, and then click Paste. Right-click the pasted file, and then click Rename. Rename the file to use the original file name extension, such as .exe. Method 2: Ask the Exchange server administrator to change the security settings If you use Outlook with a Microsoft Exchange server and the administrator has configured the Outlook security settings, the administrator might be able to help you.
