I am having some trouble with my Autotext entry in Word 2007. Instead of entering the text I have saved after typing the abbreviation and hitting F3 it opens Microsoft Excel instead.

Is this some sort of corruption? How do I fix this issue. I will add that I really don't want to have to un-install and re-install the whole Office 2007 if at all possible as I have Macro's and templates set up and starting again would be a PIA.

Maybe some programs set F3 as a keyboard shortcuts to Excel.

Try to check in word safe mode to see if add-ins cause the problem: Win+R>winword /safe.

If it doesnt work, we recommend you do a repair for Office rather than uninstall and reinstall(Control panel>programs and features>Office 2007>change>repair).

This may only take a few minutes.
