OWA only works after pressing f5 ?
Hello, I am New to Exchange and OWA and the issue I am coming accross is: The users go to the Owa address, they will type in ausername/password 3 times and get the unautorized page, but if they fit f5 afterward the paage will load just find without asking for credentials. These are on XP Pro Sp2Machines, as well as on 2003 R2 servers. I have added the website to the trusted websites. Am I missing something ? I have Reset all virtual directories and Checked the IIS securities and everything looks correct.

It's a known issue based on your info: (But it's applied to ex2k3; please let me know if you're using ex2k7, and your detailed error info, from the event viewer in server and client) SYMPTOMS: When you try to log on to OWA, you may be prompted for credentials three times, and then you may receive the following error message: You are not authorized to view this page you do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials you supplied. HTTP 401.1 - Unauthorized: Logon Failed Internet Information Services RESOLUTION Step 1: Verify Exchange Virtual Directory Settings 1. Start EMS->Server->servername->Protocol->HTTP->Virtual Server->exchange virtual server 2. Right-click exchange virtual directory->choose Properties. Notes: Make sure to verify DNS settings and to verify the e-mail domain of the user who is experiencing this issue. If the e-mail domain is set incorrectly, you can resolve this problem by setting the e-mail domain correctly. 3. Access tab-> click Authentication. 4. Click to select the Basic authentication check box, if it is not already selected. 5. In the Default domain box, type \ (the backslash character), if it is not already present. Step 2: Verify Default Web Site Properties 1. IIS-> Default Web Site->right-click Exchange virtual directory->choose Properties. 2. Virtual Directory tab, verify that the Local Path box points to the M drive, and then make a note of the path. 3. Verify that the Application name box contains the Exchange virtual directory application. Note: When a valid application is displayed in this box, the Create button is not displayed. Instead, a Remove button is displayed next to the Application name box. If a Create button is displayed next to the Application name box, click it. Exchange then appears in the Application name box. 4. Directory Security tab-> click the Edit button under Anonymous access and authentication control. 5. Select the Basic authentication (password is sent in clear text) check box, if it is not already selected. 6. Under Authenticated access, click the Edit button. 7. In the Domain Name box, type \ (backslash character) if it is not already displayed. Step 3: Verify Exchange Recipient Policy 1. EMS->Recipients->Recipient Policies->Right-Click your recipient policy and choose Properties 3. Check if an SMTP address that corresponds to the folder in the M drive (which you noted earlier in step 2 of "Verify Default Web Site Properties") is listed on the E-Mail Addresses (Policy) tab. 4. In the left pane of EMS, click Recipient Update Services under Recipients. 5. right-click Recipient Update Service (Enterprise Configuration) ->click Rebuild->Yes. 6. Right-click RUS (Enterprise Configuration) ->click Update Now. 7. Right-click RUS (DomainName.com )->click Rebuild->Yes. 8. Right-click RUS ( DomainName.com )->click Update Now . 9. Wait for a few minutes to allow the Rebuild operation and the Update operation to complete, and then test OWA from a client. Thank you for the Information I wil go through this tonight to see if it does resolve my issue. It is a 2k3 exchange server, I will also try to post the event viewer errors tomorrow.

I have tried what you suggested and it did not resolve the issue. I think it is an issue with IIS and not exchange. When I log on as Administrator and then into OWA as a user without admin rights I do not get that issue. But if I log in as a user and use the users user name and password I do get the error. When I did the testing I also removed the users from their GPO's

Please use the KB below for permission checking http://support.microsoft.com/kb/327843 Try to create a new test account to log on, see if there's still same symptom. Please tell me your exchange environment, FE/BE or single server What you need to know is, FE does not allow windows authentication. Step 2 - clicking the create button solved my problem where users logon would not work. Thank you.
