OWA on Exchange 2010 Problems; can read email but unable to send/reply/reply all/forward/etc.
Last week we had some DNS issues that were eventually resolved. During that time Exchange was down while I figured out what happened and fixed it. Finally figured out the NIC was bad and swapped to the secondary NIC - voila good to go. However now we're having OWA issues where you can get in to your account, read email, delete email, move email to another folder - those kinds of things - but you can't reply to an email, reply to all, forward one - nothing of that sort. The error it gives me is below: Request Url: https://mail.londonbridgetrading.com:443/owa/forms/premium/EditMessage.aspx? ae=Item&t=IPM.Note&a=Reply&id=RgAAAABbncQio7PKQaMgItUl2Kz7BwAhlwGMx5RMTr183H5IfbvVAAABjV8HAACK0F9Pj2fmR4WZgppeobEw AAAErvKCAAAJ User host address: 172.20.1.10 User: Steve Cauffiel EX Address: /o=London Bridge Trading Company/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Recipients/cn=SCauffiel SMTP Address: SCauffiel@londonbridgetrading.com OWA version: 14.0.682.1 Mailbox server: Exchange.london.local Exception Exception type: Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Storage.StoragePermanentException Exception message: The process failed to get the correct properties. Everything else seems to be running and working okay but this is definitely a hangup for our offsite users. Users using HTTP to get mail aren't having any problems, just OWA users. Thanks a bunch for any help, Steve

Hi, Please try to use https://IP/owa to test the issue. Besides, I'd like to know if you have forefront enabled in the network. If yes, then please try to disable forefront and then reboot the server to check the issue again. Also you can check if you have event 8022 logged in the event viewer. Reards, Xiu

Reards, Xiu Hey Xiu, thanks a bunch for the reply! Yes, we're using Forefront - I also had Kaspersky AV for Servers installed on the box too. (I don't think that had anything to do with the problem though as it's run like that since December) Regardless, I removed KAV, disabled Forefront and rebooted. Funnily enough, everything is MUCH snappier now when administering the server AND the issue with OWA is also fixed. The downside to this story is that I've got an Exchange server with no antivirus running on it now. =( I'll try enabling Forefront and restarting again and see what happens; I don't have Event 8022 logged anywhere either. I'll be back!

Glad to hear it works now. Besides, please verify if the av has exclude the exchange directory. For Forefront, you can refer to the technet article: Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange Server 14 and RBAC http://blogs.technet.com/fss/archive/2010/02/24/forefront-protection-2010-for-exchange-server-14-and-rbac.aspx Regards, Xiu
