OWA 2013 custom forms

Hi there,

We have a product that makes use of OWA 2010 custom forms development technology. I need to re-implement this for Exchange 2013. Unfortunately I've found this technology is deprecated and doesn't work in OWA 2013. 'Mail apps for Outlook' is pointed as a replacement development technology. However, with Mail apps for Outlook I can't find what provides the same functionality custom forms provide - that is to display a custom form/view for the item(Message, Ipm.Note.Xxxxxx) in preview pane as well in view, reply/reply all/forward windows.

Can you please advise if this is possible at all? I'd highly appreciate any further information as well.

Thanks in advance,
Vlad

Hi,

you can customized OWA for 2013 as well. Below technet article can help you how to do so.

Kindly mark this as helpful / answer if it helps. Thanks.

Vlad,

Mail apps for Outlook will provide you with the functionality that you need. And your custom forms will not only work in Outlook Web App, they'll work in Outlook and OWA for devices too.

A "read mode" app will display information in the preview pane and view windows, you can look at "Create mail apps for read forms in Outlook" (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/dn568063(v=office.15).aspx) for more information. That section includes a topic called "How to: Activate a mail app for a specific message class" (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/fp142289(v=office.15).aspx) that should answer your specific question about activating a mail app for the Ipm.Note item type.

To use a mail app in the compose, reply, reply all, and forward windows you'll need to read up on creating a "compose mode" mail app. Take a look at "Create mail apps for compose forms in Outlook" (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/dn482461(v=office.15).aspx) for more.

Currently there is nothing in OWA in Exchange 2013 that replaces directly what you could do with Forms in OWA in 2010,2007 and in particular the feature your using.

Microsoft are still developing the features related to Mail apps for Outlook/OWA eg in SP1 Compose Apps where introduced http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/dn482461(v=office.15).aspx . But there has been no annoucments as to what might be added in the future.

Currently all you can do is see if you can rework the application based around what you can do with Mail Apps as this extensiblity path for OWA. Eg you maybe able to do something with templates in Compose apps to cater for reply/reply all/forward I'd suggest watching this video http://channel9.msdn.com/Events/MEC/2014/EXT302 which demostrates some of this.

Cheers
Glen
