OWA 2007 and Search using DBCS
Folks, I didn't see any other forum that pertained to OWA, so I'm posting this question in the General forum. I work for a large corporation, and we are using Exchange 2007 for all our user mailboxes. (We are planning our Exchange 2010 deployment, but this issue pertains to Exch2k7.) We are basically a US corporation, but are expanding into other countries. We just purchased a group based in Shanghai, China, and are trying to support them on our Exchange servers. However, they have come to us with an issue they are seeing - when they attempt to search their mailbox using OWA and use more than one Chinese character in their search, they always get zero results. If they use a single character, the search works. I have tried searching TechNet and the MSFT KB, but to no avail. Is there something I need to do on our servers that enables searching with a DBCS? TIA ... Will Martin

Hi What's version of your exchange 2007? Does it have latest SP installed on? Try to log into the Chinese language version of the OWA and see if the issue persists. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread. Thanks Gen Lin-MSFT

We're running Exchange 2007 SP2 RU4 and RU5. We were hoping we wouldn't ahve to go to Exchange 2007 SP3, since we are doing our planning for Exchange 2010 with its latest SP. Are there updates in Ex2k7SP3 that might affect this problem?

Are there updates in Ex2k7SP3 that might affect this problem? The people who are trying this are Chinese, and should be connecting with the Chinese language version, but I will check to be sure. I have to ask, though, does this type of search not work from an English version of the client? That's not very useful in a multi-national corporation, since it would require that users log off their client and re-open it with the Chinese version if they wish to search.

I take it this is not a known issue? If it's known, I'd rather not open a case with Microsoft to investigate ...
