OWA - How To: External URL redirection ?
Exchange 2007 SP1
Windows Server 2008
IIS 7
The default OWA External and Internal URL's are working correctly,
e.g. https://mail server.com/owa
However under Client Access / OWAProperties / General, if I change the "External URL" to a different virtual URL
[ /emailhere instead of /owa ] it doesn't update how OWA is accesses. IIS still shows the virutal directory as /owa .
How do I change the virtual diretcory without breaking Exchange or IIS?
Thanks.

I wouldn't suggest removing the /owa directory. And while I haven't found the need to do it yet, technically there is a way to add another virtual directory (the step you would need to do BEFORE what you listed above) to service mailboxes.

I would encourage you though to stick with the default /owa vifrtual directory unless you have some major technical reason and/or political pressure to use another name.

The new-owavirtualdirectory command only works if the OWA directory is missing and needs to be-recreated, according to MS the -name switch does not work in Exchange 2007, only 2000/20003.

How is it that this thread has two "posts" and no "views" - while some threads have 15,000 "views", is this Forum working correctly?

Hi,
I understand that you would like to customize the OWA URL.
Regarding this issue, please view the following link to resolve this issue.

This method leaves the original url in place; /OWA is still active.
I don't want anyone to be able to access our email site using a common url like /OWA
The idea is the change /OWA to something others will not know.
Thank you
