OOF in Outlook 2007 not working on off-domain PC. What to do?
I have some users using off-domain PC (ie non domain member PC) because they're working in an office in another country. Their PC are connected to our LAN through VPN, and they're reading mails in Outlook 2007 connected to our Exchange server. There was no OOF problem when we were using Exchange 2000. But I've finished upgrading Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2007 only a week ago, and those off-domain PC users told me that they can't start/use OOF from their Outlook 2007 anymore. I've found the following article: http://www.pro-exchange.eu/modules.php?$1&name=News&file=article&sid=686 I don't know much about reason 1 to 3, but it seems like I'm hitting reason 4: Logged on with another user account !! Does that mean my off-shore co-workers are stuck? PS: Those users previously have had a domain of their own, but their DC had crashed lately, so they can be considered as domain-less. And I told them not to waste time to restore their domain as I might be including their site in domain of the main office few months later. I don't know if this info is important or not, or if it would change anything to my problem, so I write it out as well.

Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure, but I'll tell them to apply it and see. Is this hotfix a part of Office 2007 SP2 ?

That's a darned good question - wish I had a darned good answer ;)You could have 1 user apply SP2 and see if it fixes the problem, and another apply the hotfix, and see it that fixes it ;)Karl

Normally, any SP is supposed to include previously published hotfixes, but in the list of "issues that the service pack fixes", there's no issue/hotfix number! That's quite annoying....

Someone told me if I've OOF problem, "Free/Busy" information is also having problem. But I was migrating from Exchange 2000 directly, so I have no idea what this "Free/Busy" is. How could I check this?

Does OOF work for domain joined PC's?Do you have other than office 2007 clients? If so, did you create public folders on the a 2007 server? (Exchange asks if you have 2003 or earlier clients on install)Finally, can the problem users manage OOF via OWA? if so, it's not a free busy issue :)Karl

Does OOF work for domain joined PC's? Absolutely no problem. Do you have other than office 2007 clients? If so, did you create public folders on the a 2007 server? (Exchange asks if you have 2003 or earlier clients on install) Officially, only Office 2007 is used/allowed in my company. So I could discard any Outlook 2003 client or even earlier versions. Finally, can the problem users manage OOF via OWA? if so, it's not a free busy issue :) I'm still reading articles to see how to setup ISA 2006 to make OWA work on Internet.... :( Exchange 2007 is a lot more complicated than Exchange 2000...

I followed Schinder's articles starting here:http://www.isaserver.org/tutorials/Publishing-Exchange-2007-OWA-Exchange-ActiveSync-RPCHTTP-using-2006-ISA-Firewall-Part1.htmlKarl

Have you applied this hotfix to the user's Outlook? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/954574 OK, I've just got a reply from a co-worker: He has installed Office 2007 SP2 and rebooted his PC. He tried OOF but he still got the ".... server unavailable" message. Then he tried to apply this hotfix but he got the message saying that "The expected version of the product was not found on the system". That would suggest that the hotfix is already included in SP2, right?

Have him try using OWA to set the OOF - does that work? Well, I think it would take me at least 12 hours to read AND understand that 7-part-article.... :-$ I think I'm going to throw up...

You can skim it ;) (Off-topic on ISA for OWA) Well, "yes", you can skim it if you have prior knowledge of what you're reading and what you expect. But "No" if you don't. As a matter of fact, while I was implementing ISA 2006, I at first "skimmed" the articles, but I finally got into problem and I didn't seem to see any solution. I then had to read everything, really everything, and that's how I saw that solutions are written there, but rather in a convoluted way that you can't see it at a glance. Anyway, my OOF problem is solved already. "For the record", please take a look at the other thread: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvrgeneral/thread/bae353b1-7b81-42ed-9ef9-5d35d23d4154/
