OK - How do you access Public Folders?

So I have my RTM environment build, and I have my public folder mailbox setup and folders created.

I've granted my test user access via EAC. However when I go in via OWA or Outlook 2013, I do not see them anywhere.

Is there some magic to getting access to these? I tried also going to open another mailbox but I was under the assumption they would show up just like they did in previous versions? At least it did from some of the screenshots I've seen.

Hi,

you can find the way to access public folder in the bottom of the article.

I've followed all of those steps as mentioned to create the public folder mailbox and the public folder hierarchy, but I do not see the public folders listed in the bottom of the Folder List.

Hello,

Because of the new design of public folder, unlike with previous version of exchange there are no longer administrative permissions, only client permissions also known access rights.

So after you create the public folder, you'll need to assign the owner permissions level so that at least one user can access the public folder from the client and create subfolders.

Here is the article for your reference.

I have attempted to setup my user account with Owner permission, and restarted Outlook, tried OWA, and still no Public Folder hierarchy is listed in the Folder List. I know it exists, but it's as if I don't have it setup.

You wont see Public Folders in 2013 OWA RTM. Hopefully in SP1.

When using Outlook, Ensure you have clicked on the "Folders" button on the bottom left side of Outlook

Hello,

Right now PF isn't visible from OWA in Exchange 2013 for users, You have only access from Outlook client

This is by design.

Sorry guys but there's nothing inside of Outlook either. I havent tested it in Office 2013 RTM yet but that's my next hunch, since my main test box is running the Preview. I'll report back on my success (or failure).

Even in the obvious folder view there is no Public Folder hierarchy presented to Test User, who is setup as an Owner of the public folders.

Hello,

I suggest you run the get-publicfolderclientpermission  to check the test user permissions for a public folder.

Recreate the Outlook profile from scratch.  It may be that you need to get updated Autodiscover data.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've tried creating a clean profile on both Outlook 2010 & Outlook 2013 but no public folder tree appears.

Also I went to look at the permissions and everything looks OK, with my Test User having Owner rights on the public folder tree (Data is the root folder):

[PS] C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\scripts>Get-PublicFolderClientPermission | fl

cmdlet Get-PublicFolderClientPermission at command pipeline position 1

Hello,

It's odd. From the result, everything seems ok.

Please try to use another user and check the result.

I think I'm getting close.

Since this was in my lab environment and I had a split DNS domain going, it wasn't until I was debugging an issue with EWS on the Lync 2013 side and integration of UCS that it tipped me off I was missing a few DNS records.

After I fixed the External EWS URL and added the mail server ExternalURL in DNS name plus the autodiscover ExternalURL, I briefly saw the Public Folders appear in Outlook but then it disappeared, and I'm still not seeing it in OWA. Time for a little more digging but I think I'm on the right track, though it not appearing in OWA is throwing me for a loop.

I have exact same problem.

Please, check you can see a Public Folder from outlook 2010 ?

Problem with PF

I've had the same problem with Outlook 2010. I've solved it by setting the password authenthication to "NTLM" (folder "security"), connection to HTTP (folder "connection") and proxy settings to the exchange server address ("https://<servername>") in the profile.

After that, i'm able to see the public folders in Outlook. OWA seems not to display them at all.

Did you try right clicking on the Favorites in OWA 2013? It will give you and option to add public folder.

I have a similar problem and I think you would be able to help solve it.
On the exchange server 2013 Create public folder. If the user is logged into the computer under a domain account in the outlook folder visible. But if you connect to exchange outlook from a local computer account, public folders are not visible.
You could solve this problem?????

I believe this to be an AutoDiscover issue with the DNS as I am investigating a similar problem with one of my client.

Have you tried this hotfix?

Basically there's a known issue with Outlook 2007-2013 connecting to public folders on Exchange 2013.
