OAB from Exchange 2007 to 2010 SP1 - broken as usual
I am trying to move the OAB generation and downloading to the Exchange 2010 server (has Mailbox, CAS and HUB on the same server). Autodiscover has been tested and it works fine (yes, I CTRL-Clicked the Outlook icon, ran the test with only Autodiscover box checked - passed the test). First off the OAB generation skips entries (deja vu all over again): OALGen skipped some entries in the offline address list '\Global Address List'. To see which entries are affected, event logging for the OAL Generator must be set to at least medium. The link to Event Log Online Help provided leads to a dead end. I did set the logging level to medium, looked that the log (AddressBook Service\AddressBook_xxxxxxxx-x.log), can't figure out what exactly I am looking for. Neither the word skip* or error appear in the log. Also, I can't download OAB from Outlook either (again, just like in the 2003 to 2007 move), get the very unhelpful 0x8004010F error. Looking in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\ExchangeOAB\60b48f49-c97c-4ea2-8705-86462590048e directory, there are files there, there is no other server that I have to sync with, so server to server commuincation isn't a problem. DIstribution tab is set with every box checked, the Address Lists tab has the GAL checked. I looked that the Move OAB Generation to Exchange 2010 topic in the Deployment Assistant, checked on the "How Do I know this worked topic, and everything is as it says it should be. Quote the checklist: You can use the Move Offline Address Book wizard in the Exchange Management Console to perform this procedure. 1. In the Console tree, navigate to Organization Configuration > Mailbox. 2. In the Result pane, click the Offline Address Book tab, and then select the OAB for which you want to move generation to a new server. 3. In the Actions pane, click Properties. On the Distribution tab, select the Enable Web-based distribution and the Enable public folder distribution check boxes and then click OK. 4. In the Actions pane, click Move. 5. On the Move Offline Address Book page, click Browse to select the server to which you want to move the OAB generation process, and then click OK. 6. Click Move to move the OAB generation process to the selected server. 7. On the Completion page, verify that the operation completed successfully. Click Finish to close the Move Offline Address Book wizard. How do I know this worked? The successful completion of the Move Offline Address Book wizard will indicate that the command worked as expected. To further verify that the OAB generation server is the server selected in Step 5 above, examine the value for Generation Server on the Offline Address Book tab in the Exchange Management Console. One problem: it still doesn't work. What am I missing here? All of the other web services seem to be working fine.

The error code 0x8004010F means cannot find. Do you have a public folder store mounted? Does it have the system folders in it? If it does, verify the OAB directories have at least one replica listed. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources

Can you post the results from Get-OABVirtualDirectory | fl and the results of Test email AutoConfiguration that you ran earlier?

Outlook 2007 and 2010 don't even use PFs for OAB downloading. But, I can't force replication anyway, because as soon as I attempt to set the replication schedule from something other than never, it errors out: -------------------------------------------------------- Microsoft Exchange Error -------------------------------------------------------- The following error(s) occurred while saving changes: set-publicfolder Failed Error: Cannot save the object '\NON_IPM_SUBTREE\OFFLINE ADDRESS BOOK'. I got to thinking that since Outlook 2007 and 2010 both use the web interface that I would try connecting to the OAB directory via IE. Error - can't read the web.config file in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\ClientAccess\OAB directory! So I looked around and saw that someone had posted that they added Read & Execute to the file for Authenticated Users, and lo and behold, OAB downloads now work! Nothing that Microsoft makes works out of the box any more. You always have to know a bunch of secret things to make it work. Shh! Don't tell anybody! SnoBoy
