Number of items in Tree Filter (2010)

Is there a way to configure the number of items in a tree filter before the "Show more items" link is displayed

This was possible on 2007

Thanks

Hello Tim,

In 2010, go to Central Admin -> Application Management -> Manage Service Applications ->  PerformancePoint Service Application Settings.  Here you will find the Filters section.  You will want to change 'Maximum members to load in filter tree'.

This gives you the same funcationality that was in 2007 with editing the web.config files.

Thanks

There actually appear to be two different limits in play when loading the data into a filter.  The config item Heidi mentions above controls the hard limit of items that will load into a filter.  In the first image below, I've loaded a few hundred locations in a hierarchy by district.  All of the locations load, but when expanding a larger district, after the first 180 locations (more or less) I get a prompt to load more items into the display.  Clicking that prompt immediately displays additional locations.  All of the items can eventually be displayed in the filter by clicking " show more items" because I am under the 5000 item default limit in the config setting described above.

In the second image, I've attempted to load 10,000 plus employee UserNames into a filter, with discretization buckets by the first two characters of the username. This filter will stop loading after the default limit of 5000 items is hit.  The configuration setting has to be increased to accomodate my maximum number of entries, in this case somewhat over 10,000.

So, we know how to increase the hard limit for the second issue, but is there a way to address the "paging" limit for the first issue.

Thx, Mike

I would say using cascading filters is a good viable option to traverse through a filters with a lot of values. Especially in terms of end user experience where you manually have to go through 4000+ items to select on value.

The first example above, "Select Facilities" is setup with a cascading filter.  The user first selects a District filter . then the facility.  However, in the natural hierarchy the detail facilities under a large district may exceed 200, which caused PPS to cutoff the display and show the "Show More Items" prompt.  I'm looking for a way to configure the limit before PPS displays that prompt.

I guess I could add a discretization level by facility name, but that adds to the depth of the hierarchy that has to be traversed.

Thx, Mike
