No tape drive support in windows 2008
Dear Friends, In Windows 2008 there is no tape drive support in Windows backup. Is there any alternative to backup to tape drive directly like NTBACKUP in WINDOWS 2008. Please advice. nitin

For a better response, I would ask this in the Windows 2008 Forums: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/category/windowsserver/

Hello, There are some removable drives like the RD-1000 which are actually removable media backup drives that get seen by Windows as HDD's. The RD-1000 from Dell or Exabyte is a removable storage unit that has interchangeable hard disk modules. They plug in and out like tape drives, but are actually hard disk media. I am not an expert on them because I just have only two installed in the field but so far they have worked great. I have had no problems. I use them with backup Exec but since it is not seen as tape backup it's likely to work with just about any backup utility. http://www.dell.com/us/en/business/storage/pvaul_rd1000/pd.aspx?refid=pvaul_rd1000&cs=04&s=bsd MiguelMiguel Fra / Falcon ITS Computer & Network Support, Miami, FL Visit our Knowledgebase Sharepoint Site
