No Updates showing for Office 2013

I have recently purchased several Dell Optiplex 7010 computers which were pre-installed with Office 2013 and Windows 7 64 bit.

Whether I use Microsoft Update online, or use the in-house WSUS server I receive NO UPDATES for Office 2013.  Windows, dotnet, etc. update just fine using both methods.  There are no office updates installed on the computers, and none show up as needed using either of these techniques.  The WSUS server lists dozens of updates for Office 2013, but each of these new computers shows as "Not Applicable".

Something's fishy here, and I need to figure out how to troubleshoot why no Office 2013 updates are being delivered to these computers.

Thank you for any suggestions.

Hi,

Based on my research, it seems that the issue is related to WSUS server.

Try to re-index WSUS to check the issue.

Please re-read my message, I clearly stated that whether I Use MICROSOFT UPDATE OR WSUS, there are no updates.

It's like the computer doesn't have office on it or something, although it definitely does.

Thanks

It appears Dell may have installed the "Click-to-Run" version of Office on your computers.  Updates for the C2R version do not appear in Windows Update or WSUS.  Updates are downloaded in the background automatically (whether you want them or not).

You can identify C2R by looking under the File tab.  There will be a button that shows update options (on or off) and the version number.   Another way to identify C2R is in Window's Programs & Features.  With C2R, you no longer have the ability to add or delete Office applications.

I have the same issue in our company.  All of our new Dell computers since sometime this January are coming with Office 2013 preinstalled.  I join them to our domain and the computers find other updates using our WSUS server but no Office updates.  When I check our WSUS server, it doesn't show any computers needing these updates.  As if no computer on our network has Office 2013 installed.  I've searched and searched and I haven't found anyone with the answer unless Whisper2 (below) is correct and these computers are silently updating themselves.  I'm OK with it if that is the case.  I am just worried that these new computers are not getting the necessary Office patches.

Whisper2 has properly stated the situation.  I have been fighting a kind of related problem in that I (& many other people as well) needed the "MSI" version of Office 2013 (Home & Business, in my case) so I could do a custom install of the program, eliminating various parts that I didn't need.  In the process of this I discovered (after long, drawn-out discussions with both Dell & Microsoft Tech Support) that Office 2013 (or at least the H & B version) doesn't come in a custom-installable (MSI) format any more; it's the accursed "Click-To-Run" or nothing, even if you special-order the physical DVD disc (which MS refers to as "backup media").  A byproduct of this is that it also automatically updates in the background (and unbeknownst to the user) as Whisper2 has correctly stated, so you will no long see any updates listed in Windows / Microsoft Updates or WSUS for Office as you have in the past; this is just one of the many wonderful "features" in the new & improved Office 2013, so put your mind at ease (and forget about doing any custom installs while you're at it - it's "all or nothing" now).  Hope that helps...

Oops!  Just stumbled across this and thought I'd better post it in the interest of accuracy; apparently there is a WSUS option after all, which I discovered on another post.  Sorry I didn't know about this sooner, but I got back here as fast as I could...

You can definitely use WSUS for Office 2013...  Just look at the link below for the update catalog that shows the listing of updates available to WSUS for Office 2013.
