New exchange 2013 DAG/Site resilience with Exchange 2010 co-existence

Hi,

We have a single exchange 2010 server that we are planning to retire so that we can move to 2013. Is it possible for us to setup a new exchange 2013 environment with DAG across two data centers while we have 2010 running? We have tested a single to single migration without any issues(very easy).

Any restrictions on this one?

Thanks!

You install Exchange 2013 into an existing organization Exchange 2010. There is no difference 1 Exchange Server 2013 or a few sites with DAG.

The main setting is coexistence and mail flow.

2010 cannot be upgraded in place to 2013. You will be adding a new Exchange server.

The Exchange 2013 server cannot be added to the 2010 DAG. It will be a new DAG.

Exchange 2013 can be installed in an Exchange 2010 organization and you can have a number of Exchange 2010 CAS arrays and DAGs coexisting with a number of Exchange 2013 CAS arrays and DAGs.

You'll need to configure the CAS co-existence with the same concepts as you did for the single server migrations.

As for mailbox moves, you can move mailboxes from mailbox databases in the Exchange 2010 DAG to the Exchange 2013 DAG.

Once done, public folders need to be migrated then the Exchange 2010 environment decommissioned.

Note that this is a very abbreviated set of steps. More detailed steps can be generated using the Exchange Server Deployment Assistant which is here: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/office/dn756393.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

Thanks.
