New Forest and Prepairing AD
I'm adding a new forest and will be using an existing forests Exchange server. I'm doing the schema and ad preparations and am running into a problem. When I run the /preparead it wants an OrganizationName. Should I be using the existing Org Name or just make one up? Does it matter?David Jenkins

You cannot move exchaneg server from one forest to other. What is the purose of the new forest? What are you trying to acheive?

Who said anything about moving exchange? I am creating a new forest and domain. The existing domain would be the resource domain I guess. The new forest\domain needs to have the schema extended at least. I just want to verify before I prepare ad wrong.David Jenkins

I'm adding a new forest and will be using an existing forests Exchange server. ... kind of lead me to understand it that way. Had you used resource forest it would have been obvious... Anyway.. if the other forest is user account forest then you don't need schema extension.. you would use linked accounts

I think I'm just now realizing that. So from what I'm reading the linked account is just a disabled account in AD (Resource domain). I'm running through labs and trying to understand scenarios and so on before I do the real deal in production. I had been concerned with the AD setup first and now that is done I kind of jumped into preparing for exchange without realizing what I was doing.David Jenkins

Yes, the linked account is just a disabled account in AD (Resource domain). A ggod link http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998031.aspx This for 2007, but everything applies to 2010 as well http://www.msexchange.org/articles_tutorials/exchange-server-2007/planning-architecture/deploying-exchange-resource-forest-part1.html
