New Exchange Install Compatibility questions
We operate in a small environment but after much annoyance with multiple hosted email services decided to go to having our own Exchange Server. Our current environment is 1 domain controller running Small Business Server 2003 Standard and another server running Windows Server 2003 Standard. We want to install a new server running Windows Server 2010 Standard for both Exchange Server 2010 and Sharepoint Foundation 2010. The hardware consists of a Dell Poweredge 840 Server with a 2.6 Ghz quad core Xeon, 4 GB of ECC RAM and hardware based RAID drives that are simply mirrored, producing a 500 GB drive for software and a 2 TB drive for storage. Initially we will have about 50 users in one virtual domain and just a few users in another virtual domain with two other virtual domains with fewer than 10 users in fairly short order. We won't be running Unified Messaging and will be combining the mail server roles onto one instance of Exchange. My questions are as follows. Will there be an issue because of the domain controller being 32 bit Server 2003? Given the hardware, will this work without putting Exchange and Sharepoint Foundation on different virtual machines? Is the RAM adequate for this small number of users and running Sharepoint Foundation as well? Are there other issues that I haven't come across in my initial planning stage yet? Thanks in advance for any answers anyone can provide.

Hi Will there be an issue because of the domain controller being 32 bit Server 2003? It will work well. (I just know about exchange) Given the hardware, will this work without putting Exchange and Sharepoint Foundation on different virtual machines? Yes Is the RAM adequate for this small number of users and running Sharepoint Foundation as well? It is enough for Exchange. I dont know sharepoint requirement.Terence Yu TechNet Community Support
