New Email Received Notification Pops Up But Email Not in Inbox

I get a notification that I have received a new email. I can read the email by clicking on the notification, but that email doesn't always appear in my inbox.

I am using Outlook 2010 as my email client.  I have an MS Exchange account hosted on my SBS 2011 Standard server using MS Exchange 2010.

Where are these emails going?  Is it possible to retrieve them?  Are they stored on my email server?  If so, where?

When you have the email open from having clicked the notification, press Ctrl Shift F, which will bring an Advanced Find window which will have its location defaulted to the location of the email you're viewing. Then you can just click the Browse button and you'll see the location of the email. As for how it got there, it could be a rule, or you might find that it really is in your Inbox and there's something about your current view that's hiding it.

Hi,

In addition to Peter's reply, we can clean the current views to check the emails again:

Press Win + R, type "outlook.exe /cleanviews" in the "Run" dialog, press Enter. It will restore default views and the custom views you had will be lost.

Thank you for your reply, Peter.

I am not always at my computer to catch the pop up notification in time to open the email.

I was hoping someone could tell me where on Exchange these emails may be stored as I have "lost" an important email that I can't replace.

My current view is the standard single Outlook view without preview panes.  I changed the view to preview and the lost emails remain lost.

Thank you for your reply Melon.

I ran the Outlook cleanview tool.  The emails remain lost or hidden and the view did not change.  I am using Outlook's single view without preview panes.

I was hoping someone could tell me where on Exchange these emails may be stored as I have "lost" an important email that I can't replace.
