New-MailboxRepairRequest -DetectOnly Impact
Hi There, I know the documentation for New-MailboxRepairRequest indicates: "While this task is running, mailbox access is disrupted only for the mailbox being repaired." If I am running this on a database with the -DetectOnly flag, does it still cause user interruption? Thanks!

I have ran this on a "live" mailbox before and never noticed any interruption of service as long as the -DetectOnly flag is set. Note that you do have to include the -CorruptionType when you run it. It would *sure* be nice if we could easily retrieve the results of this cmdlet using the EMS. :-) As it stands now, we have to search through the event logs and look for event ID 10047 and 10048 and we have to know the mailbox GUID. You can look up the GUID for user "Jim" using this command: Get-Mailbox Jim | FL name,ExchangeGuid Jim McBee - Blog - http://mostlyexchange.blogspot.com

Hi, By the way, is the version of your Exchange Server 2010 SP1? Exchange 2010 SP1 introduces the New-MailboxRepairRequest cmdlet that allows you to detect and repair a corrupted mailbox while leaving the mailbox database online. If you're running this command against a database, only the mailbox being repaired is disrupted. All other mailboxes on the database remain operational. For more information, you can refer to the following articles: Exchange 2010 SP1: New-MailboxRepairRequest Exchange 2010 SP1: Database Integrity checking Hope this helps. Thanks Sophia Xu

Hi, I am running SP1 and I am aware that while the database stays online, each individual mailbox is only taken offline during a repair. I think Jim answered the question in saying that the only way users are not interrupted is if the -DetectOnly flag is set. I had the opportunity to do some testing with several accounts and verified that users did not experience an interruption in service when I ran New-MailboxRepairRequest against their mailbox with the -DetectOnly flag present. I have to note that these users have mailboxes under 2GB, so I'm not sure if the results would be different with a larger mailbox/more mailbox items. Thanks!
