Need some suggestions on this Exchange 2007 design...
I have inherited the following project and was wondering what you all think? Server1 has CAS and Hub roles. Server2 has CAS and Mailbox roles. I built a new mailbox server called Server3 and am planning on moving the mailboxes off of Server2 to Server3. Then I plan on rebuilding Server2 with just the mailbox role and we are going to setup SCR between 2 & 3. The rebuilt server will be placed inour DR site. Money was an issue so we couldnt do CCR My question is, willwe have any issues with this scenario? Especially since Server2 had the CAS role on it andwe will be removing it? We just wanted to make surewe wont run into any issues with this setup.

It doens't create any issue as soon as you uninstall Exchange Roles from Server2 properly and configure OWA and other client access service pointing to Server1 CAS in DNS.Amit Tank | MVP Exchange Server | MCITP: EMA, MCSA: M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

I dont plan on removing the CAS role from Server2 right away, but how do I figure out which CAS server my users are pointing too?

Hi,Internet domain joined users will locate the CAS from AD, when you uninstall server2 properly AD will got updated automatically and accordingly clients will get directed to server1. If you are configuring any URL to access the OWA directly from server2 such as mail.company.com or something else, then you need to update these records to point to server1. finally configure your firewall or reverse proxy to direct the Exchange web traffic to server1 only.Another concern is that you will have a single point of failure in the main site with only 1 server with Hub/Cas roles, i'd advice you in the next oppurtinity to install an additional Hub/CAS server beside Server1 so you will have a decent HA design.remember if Server1 is down even internal mail will stop,ThanksRegards, Mohamed Baher | MSFT | MCA:Exchange 2007 http://blogs.technet.com/mbaher/
