Need a global address command from exchange 2010 that will update the offline global address book in outlook 2010
We have over hundred outlook 2010 users in are organization. We had to delete some mailboxes for certain people and recreate them in exchange 2010 because of some issues with active sync. The offline global address list still points to the old mailboxes and will get bounce backs when selecting them in the address book option. I need a global command in exchange that will force a update of the offline address book in outlook so I dont have to manually go to each machine. Here is the error message I get when using the address book name in outlook. Diagnostic information for administrators: Generating server: EMAIL10..org IMCEAEX-_O=FIRST+20ORGANIZATION_OU=First+20Administrative+20Group_cn=Recipients_ #550 5.1.1 RESOLVER.ADR.ExRecipNotFound; not found ## Original message headers: visualbasicfrustrated

Hmm, are you sure this is an issue with the address book and not with the autocomplete feature? Do they actually select them, or do they let the autocomplete take over? I've seen this issue, but only with autocomplete. AFAIK, all you can do from Exchange is be sure the new address book is published. Beyond that, you'll need to wait for the next 24-48 for all the clients to grab their updates. Or.. visit each and force the download (or deselect cached mode (at potentially your own peril :)). If you think your users can handle it, some specific instructions might do the trick too.

Are you selecting the recipient from the OAB when you get that error, or are you replying to a message that was sent from the old mailbox, or are you letting Outlook tell you the address when it offers suggestions from it address completion cache? I'm guessing that you're using Outlook's address completion cache. If that's the case, remove the item from the cache. If you're replying to old messages you can pick the recipient's name from the OAB -- or you can put the original legacyExchangeDN into the mailbox's "E-mail Addresses" as a custom X500 address type. --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

When deleting the autocomplete entries and typing the email address in again to recreate the entry works but the account is still not working when selecting the account from the global address book and adding it to a new email. We immediately get a bounce back. This persons mailbox was recreated in exchange 2010. The active directory account was kept the same. visualbasicfrustrated

If so then you're using the OAB, not the GAL. Take outlook out of cached-mode and try it. If it works you have a problem with either the OAB generation, OAB distribution, or a problem with the client not downloading the OAB updates. --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP
