Navigation Pane empty of tables in Access 2010 and 2013

I have a database which has worked well for a long time. Suddenly the Navigation Pane is empty of tables, queries, etc.  The Pane is there. I can open and close it.  I can change settings on "Options". Far as I know I have not filtered out everything.  I have done a repair compact.  The same thing happens whether opening in Access 2010 or 2013. The small app that I have built works ok (access local and remote tables on a MySQL server).

I just need to get all the objects showing to do some adhoc stuff. But the contents have disappeared.

Hi,

Regarding of the issue, I have a couple of questions:

  • Could you create a new table/query of the database and it list in the Navigation Pane?
  • Have your checked the file size of the database?
  • >> The small app that I have built works ok << What's the small app?

In my view, if this database is not changed the size, I suppose the list is hidden. But, as you said, you have check the  Navigation option, you have not filtered out everything.

If this size is decreased, even change to 0 Kb, the file might be corrupted or some mistaken operation.

Please help me with above information.

George,

Thanks for getting back to me.  The crisis might have passed (as I'll explain below), but it is still a mystery which perhaps can strike again.

In answer to your your questions:
Q:Could you create a new table/query of the database and it list in the Navigation Pane?
A: I created a new query1, saved it, and nothing appears in Navigation panel.

Q: Have your checked the file size of the database?
A: 6.5 mb.  I compact each time I close it. Only one user at a time and 95% of time it's one user (me).   I did repair and compacts more than once to try to resolve this problem.  Problem shows in both Access 2010 and Access 2013.

Q: The small app that I have built works ok << What's the small app?
A: Composed of forms which connect via ODBC to a MySQL database (on server).  Little to no use of local tables and queries. A very small use of reports.

What I did to get me working again:

I created an empty Access file, and then imported all objects from the non-working Access file into the new Access file.  Far as i can tell, everything works.

I have no explanation for what caused the problem, nor why it needed such drastic action to me me going again with a new Access "container" database file.
