NDR for Exchange 2007 with Distribution Group
How do I get NDR returned to the organization when the email is sent from a Distribution Group, the current setting for the group(s) is Send Delivery Reports to Message Originator, however no one is getting the NDR messages. NDRs are working for individual mailboxes but I need to get them working for the Distribution Groups the client is using to send the message out from. Any assistance would be much appreciated. 1. You cannot configure Microsoft Exchange Server 2010, Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, or Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server to send non-delivery reports (NDRs) to a distribution list or to a public folder. This configuration is not supported To send an NDR to multiple users or to members of a distribution list, you can configure Exchange server to send a copy of the NDR to the SMTP address of a distribution list on a host on a foreign system. After you configure Exchange server to do this, configure the foreign system to send the NDR messages back to Exchange server. By doing so, multiple users receive individual copies of the NDR. Hi Garth, If you select Send delivery reports to message originator, NDR only will be sent to the message sender. There is not any option on the distribution group that can set NDR sent to all the users in the distribution group. Okay, I get that you can not send them to a distribution group, however the work around is not viable. I currently have the Distribtuion groups set to return the NDR to the message originator, however they are not getting them. We have tested this with an address we know we get a NDR from, when we send the email via the Group email address it doesn't return the NDR. Is there any way to track where the NDR is going, Out of Office replies are being received, however I have tried to explain to the client that this is different from NDRs, but alas she doesn't quite understand. The frustrating thing for her is that apparently it previously worked with there old system. If I set "Managed by" to a mailbox and then set NDRs to be sent to Group manager, will these then be directed to that mailbox? I don't want to make the change until I know what will happen. As a side note, we have inherited this system from another company that had set it up so I cannot comment on how it was originally configured.
