Mysterious Missing Email
We have recently been experiencing an error or the effects of an unknown process in our Exchange 2003 SP2 environment(Windows 2003 Standard Server R2 SP1) where users are reporting missing email. On further inspection, it appears that the email has been moved to their deleted items folder. As expected, the users insist they never moved the files. Since we have had more than a handful of users report this behavior in a short period of time, the situation begs for investigation. Any thoughts on the issue or suggestions as to how these file movements can be tracked would be helpful and appreciated.

Hi Ancel, Our issue can be caused by the incorrect client rules as well as wrong recipient policy settings on the exchange server. I suggest checking all the rules in the client to see if any rules lead our issue. Meanwhile, some mailbox manager settings in recipient policy can move emails age days>[XXdays] or size >[XX KB] to deleted items folder automatically, so we may need to check recipient policy via Exchange system manager. If the issue persists, please help me clarify the following questions: Does the issue occurs when using OWA access? Are all email missing or some specific emails missing? Hope it helps and I await your reply. Elvis
