My SMTP resolving to internal mail server domain name
Hi,
I use mxtoolbox and query my SMTP and found out that it resolves to my exchange.domain.local which is incorrect. Can some one please help on what should I do now?

Hello myketch,
Ok, as you told that when you are checking
www.mxtoolbox.com for your domain, it was resolving to exchange.domain.local.
Please check your MX record (eg.mail.domain.com) is created properly or not & also published on External DNS (ISP) servers.
If MX record is not created properly then please contact your ISP.

Ans. No, we don't need MX record on the Internal DNS server for your own SMTP domain. MX record should be created by your ISP and it should be published on the Internet (External DNS server).
Please contact your ISP and asked them to create A MX record (eg. mail.yoursmtpdomain.com
