Multitenant deployment (Exchange 2007.... maybe...)
I have a couple questions that I wanted to get some opinions on. We are looking into hosting multiple clients with one exchange server. The problem that I am facing is that Exchange 2010 doesn't support doing this just yet. Yes you can host multiple domains but there is no way (supported) to segregate the companies. So this is why I chose to try deploying Exchange 2007 following these articles: http://www.messagingtalk.org/complete-guide-to-configure-multitenant-hosting-for-exchange-20-0 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb936719%28EXCHG.80,printer%29.aspx Now the problem that I am facing is that it seems pretty difficult to separate the companies. Am I doing this right? Does this mean every user we create we have to modify that attribute so people can't see the other GAL and Address lists? Another thing is apparently Exchange 2007 doesn't seem to support users resetting their own password. It looks like 2010 does but seeing we can't use 2010 for address list segregation. I think part of the problem is we are using UPN and it needs the DOMAIN\username for password resets right? Is there a way to make this work with using UPN? I just wanted to make sure I was configuring this correctly since it seems different to me. Just wondering if those companies using Exchange to house 20,000 users is doing the same steps I am?

Exchange 2010 SP1 has multi-tenant support: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff923272.aspxNeil Hobson | www.msexchange.org/neil_hobson | neilhobson.blogspot.com | twitter @NeilHobson

But you lose the EMC and Outlook 2003 clients. We actually still have a few clients on Outlook 2003

So I decided to setup both Exchange 2007 and 2010. There are things I like about both of them but it looks like I'm leaning towards Exchange 2010. One thing I do not like is the fact that you can login using UPN but if you implement the password change it requires DOMAIN\Username. IS there a way to change this that you may know of?

Important note here: Exchange 2010 SP1 does support multi-tenant configurations but ONLY for SPLA licensing i.e. hosted environments. You are not allowed to use it on premise. To add to that there is no supported way to do GAL seperation in Exchange 2010 and following the Exchange 2007 method will break your 2010 deployment.Casper Pieterse, Principle Consultant - UC, Dimension Data South Africa, Microsoft Certified Master: Exchange 2007
