Multiple site external Client access configuration for OWA, ActiveSync, Outlook Anywhere and Autodiscover
Hi We are currently looking to deploy Exchange 2010 in two sites, one in North America and one in Australia. The idea is for every user to have the same primary SMTP domain ie. "given.last@company.com" and to be able to connect via OWA, Outlook Anywhere and Active sync. With OWA I am considering regionailised domains, i.e. "webmail.na.company.com" and "webmail.au.company.com" and configure the extrernal URL properties on the CAS servers. This should also cover Active Sync. My real issue, and I've struggled to find help anywhere in technet, is with Outlook Anywhere, specifically Autodiscover. if each user has Primary SMTP address for "company.com" does that mean the Autodiscover DNS record also needs to be "company.com" and if so, I would assume that I can only use one of the two external access points for this record, for example North America. If this is the case, how does Exchange 2010 deal with an Australian based user that connects via Autodiscover to North America? Will it proxy the CAS sesion internally to the Australia CAS server? Alternatively, can I give each user a regionalised secondary address bob@na.company.com and use regionilsed Autodiscover DNS records "autodiscover.na.company.com" whilst maintaining the users primary SMTP address of bob@company.com? I'd also appreciate some recommendations Cheers Kevin

What you're trying to do is not easy as you discovered with all names and URL's going back and forth. Read this carefully. http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2010/11/22/robert-s-rules-of-exchange-namespace-planning.aspx http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd351198.aspx in short. if you want to use the same name all over the globe and have multiple points of contacting CAS then you have problem. One solution to this is to use TMG and preauthentication. Then send TMG can send traffic to correct CAS depending on where user has the mailbox located. lasse at humandata dot se, http://anewmessagehasarrived.blogspot.com

Note: Both these URLs should be connect from internet. You have to publish them to internet. Regards, Xiu

Hi Xiu My preference is to go with regionalised domain names, but we also have two pairs of Netscalers that apparently we can set up as a global load balancer that is site/location aware. I'm waiting to get some facts. I'll close this thread thanks Kevin
