Multiple primary SMTP addresses error when creating Exchange 2007 DG
I have a user that had a SMTP alias of QC, which i need to remove and change to a DG. I remove the alias from the users account, but when I try to create a DG with that name I get the following error. I have a waited several minutes, refreshed,
forced replication everythign I can think of after removing the SMTP alias from the users account, but Exchange still thinks its in use. I have even searched to make sure it's not in use some where else. No AD groups or USERs with the name QC,
but still can't create it.
Has anyone ever seen this?
Error:
There are multiple primary SMTP addresses. Please ensure there is only one primary address for each address type.

The error doesn't say the address is used somewhere else, it says that
the object has more than one primary SMTP proxy address.
Use LDP.exe or ADSIEDIT and have a look at the proxyAddresses property
on the object you're adding the SMTP address to. Do you see more than
one address that has an UPPER CASE SMTP as the address type? If you
do, change the one that should NOT be the primary address so it uses
_lower case_ smtp as the address type.

Hi,
As Rich said, the error happens if the object has more than one primary SMTP proxy address. In exchange management Console, the primary address
is displayed in
bold font.
